New Tricks: Bringing the challenge, excitement and fun of bridge to all

New Tricks was set up to bring great bridge to players and new players to bridge. This dual mission began with the creation of the New Tricks Tournament Series, which brought eight world class players together for a 28 board tournament, during which the experts talked through their analysis and strategies as they played. This entertaining and informative series was followed by several more series featuring top players, making a step change in the quality of online content available to bridge players worldwide.

At the same time, we began teaching bridge to children in primary schools, introducing this great game to hundreds of kids who were unlikely to have encountered it otherwise, many of whom responded with huge enthusiasm and have gone on to join the UK’s national youth squad since.

We now plan to achieve a massive uplift in the numbers of young people discovering bridge through our dedicated learning site, newtricksplay.org, which combines fun puzzles with user-friendly learning resources, positioning bridge as ‘the ultimate puzzle’. From September 2026, the combination of a social media campaign based on the ultimate puzzle theme and a concerted drive by our partner charity, English Bridge Education and Development (EBED) will give many more young people the opportunity to get involved.
